Electrically Charging Your Strength

Thursday, 06 December 2007
We rarely think about the invisible power that surrounds, the powerful electrical currents that surround us on a daily basis that can teach us a lot of things about our muscular strength if we're aware them and try to emulate the way they flow and ebb.

Throughout our homes, there's electricity flowing inside our walls and out into the myriad of devices that bring convenience to our modern day lives. You can get an electrical shock from one wall socket that will contract your muscles with such severity and quickness of muscular contractions that it can knock you clear across the room with amazing ease.

The ability for an electrical current to contact your muscles quickly and intensely is in the end exactly what we're looking for in increasing our muscular strength. The speed at which electricity travels is and its quick release is something you might look at and try to emulate more closely if you're going to try to propel your athletic performances into a new realm.

Garin, think of the power and speed of an electrical shock. The speed at which it can contract all the muscles is astounding. The speed at which it can release that muscular tension once it stops is equally astonishing.

If we can try to emulate the speed and complete contraction at which an electrical shock contracts your muscles, you would see an immediate increase in your strength except for one big problem.

The problem is, is that an electrical shock activates ALL our muscles at the same time - activating opposite muscle groups all at once. And that is precisely what paralyzes us from moving.

On a much lower level, this is exactly what we do wrong when we try to "power" our muscles with what I call raw testosterone willpower - that blind activation of our musculature by thinking that raw warrior mentality of will and determination will activate supreme muscle power.

On a much lower frequency level by doing this, we activate all our musculature much as an electrical shock and end up freezing our muscles because the electrical currents that would benefit us the most if they were precisely directly are, in fact, contracting too much, too slow, and without a quick enough release.

The Hero Inside You

Sunday, 02 December 2007
The entire first season of the television hit series, "Heroes", was devoted to the interaction between all the characters who are becoming gradually aware of their unique superhero strengths and abilities and how they're going to stop the incredible exploding man from destroying an entire city.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a really fascinating premise that a man alone, without any explosive devices whatsoever, could activate every cell in his body to ignite a nuclear reaction.

This man's hands would begin glowing and emitting blinding light and searing heat just by his thoughts alone. Once activated, this unthinkable destructive power would radically spread throughout his body until it burst in one gigantic cataclysm.

Needless to say, any kind of explosion that brings harm to to life is repugnant. But what if we turned this idea completely around – on its head?

What if, just like in the TV series, our thoughts could generate enough power inside us that our body would begin glowing and eminating such tremendous heat that it would burst and engulf an entire city? Not with destructive powers, of course, but with infectious enthusiasm, unstoppable joy, passion, love, and the tremendous raw power for good that we are really capable of generating?

What if these things could radiate from our entire being so powerfully that they could deeply inspire all around us in a gigantic wave and mushroom cloud of explosive power, light, and energy?

What if this all wasn’t just in a short one-time blast, but could last throughout an entire day, a week, or a month with such a powerful force that its light alone would radiate through walls and light up those all around you?

This, of course, is where everything starts - with our minds.
And isn't it true that strength and power actually come from the same source?

Where True Physical Mastery Comes From

Friday, 30 November 2007
If we’re truly to master the mind body connection, then we must remember that it's our minds that have infinite power over our bodies - not the other way around. Whether it's to gain more strength and speed or success in life, it's paramount for us to find ways to secure complete mastery over what we are able to imagine and then translate it directly to our actions.

For it's when we train ourselves to see with complete clarity and mental focus that we are able to propel ourselves forward way beyond the norm - for clarity of vision is what makes the difference between the winners and the also-rans.

So it goes that when it comes to working out, I find that the more clarity you have in putting your mind into your muscles, the stronger and faster you can become in a shorter amount of time. In CoreForce Energy, it's the clarity of mental imagery combined with congruency of movement and physiology that makes dramatic improvements in powerful impulses that generate great increases in strength and speed.

You hear personal trainers to acting coaches to martial artists expounding on the virtues and importance of a mind/body connection. But, it's funny how you rarely hear of any of them giving you something powerful enough so that you can effortlessly anchor your imagery with the precision that is necessary to manifest a noticeable difference in your strength or how you move.

I've found through the years as a coach that if you give someone a precise picture instead of paying lip service to "getting into the muscle" they can achieve astounding successes in a short amount of time.

Attempting the Impossible Will Make You Stronger

Tuesday, 20 November 2007
I grew up with the idea that every day, you should attempt to do something you think you can't do; something that seems perhaps impossible; something that you know you'll fail in - at least in the first few times. By failing and trying every day to do something new, you find that you get better at circumventing those walls that hold you back. You learn to approach those walls with better tools and with tools that have been honed by the experiences of your failures.

By making this a common occurrence by getting used to the idea that you might fail the first time – and every day - it'll get easier and less threatening. By doing just this alone, you will be learning skills that'll make you exceptional and stronger and more confident.

Of course, for a lot of people, failing is not good for their self-esteem because to them, failure means sliding backward, losing ground. But, if you keep this idea that you try something new every day that seems impossible, your self-esteem gets used to the idea through repetition that successes will eventually come. Along with that you'll benefit from the joy of knowing you accomplished something that you thought you couldn't do. Your self-confidence will begin to soar.

Now multiply this by trying seven new things each day for a week and feeling the joy of learning seven new skills. They don't have to be big things either. Just try to do something different if it isn't a skill. Do something you wouldn't normally do. Go off the well-beaten track. Just making the attempt is half the battle and is the first step. It might mean picking a book off your shelf that you haven't read waiting for that rainy day. Yes, that book that you bought months ago with good intensions of reading.

Doing something different will inspire your brain. And where your brain is inspired, you body will respond in kind and move and feel differently almost on its own. By inspiring brain and body together by doing something new and challenging, they will find new ways to accomplish what seemed to be impossible.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Don't be afraid to take the time to do something different. Don't be afraid that you won't become great at it. Don't be afraid of attempting something that might injure your ego. You'll get over it if you make it an everyday routine. Your ego will let go of its insistence to not lose face if it knows that "for the next half-hour, you can fail all you like".

By doing something different every day eventually you'll find that not only has the ego let go of it's tight grip to not lose face, but that all the things you attempted to try have a lot more in common than you ever thought. That's why things get easier when your brain and body find similarities and build resources to think and move differently. What seemed impossible is finally achieved by applying something learned by failing at something else completely unrelated.

Visceral Gladiator Strength for Super Combat Conditioning

Monday, 19 November 2007
Every time we visit Rome and see the Coliseum, I think of the great strength and ferocity that a gladiator must have trained with in order to prevail over every battle and to live to see another day.

Our careers as performers take my wife and I around the world to great places like we’re in today, Rome. As you know, it’s the home of the great Coliseum and course; it's the center of what once was the Great Roman Empire. Somehow it seems like this spectacular history is a complete fantasy and is the sole creation of the make-believe world of moviemaking.

But from history we all know it was as real as you and I. In fact, as an entertainer myself, I can't help but thinking that gladiators were considered entertainment as well. Instead of me hoping to receive a standing ovation tomorrow night, maybe back then I'd be hoping that a good performance meant I would live to see another day!

Every time I train - no matter what it is, I try to put myself in front of a crowd, as if it's the real deal, an actual performance. But you can always put a lot more to it than just that. Can you imagine being at the center of the Coliseum as a gladiator hearing the roar of the crowd - 50 thousand strong?

Imagine the rush you'd feel from the adrenaline pumping through your veins. Imagine the exhilaration of knowing that if you don’t win, you will most likely die and ugly death. You aren't just playing for the crowd's approval, you're fighting for your life. No second chances just because you were having a “bad day” or didn’t feel up it.

You've all heard massive waves of sounds from our modern day sports events. But now imagine that you are on the arena of old. Imagine that you are in the Coliseum ready to do battle. To help you get there, try listening to these words from the movie soundtrack of box office smash hit Gladiator movie, "The Slave Who Became a Gladiator".

Hear the intensity of the music making a chilling crescendo and then fading with the hypnotic beating drums in the background as the Slave Master speaks to Maximus:

"The Coliseum Spaniard fifty thousand Romans... watching every moment of your sword willing you to make that killer blow, the silence before you strike and the noise afterwards. It rises, it rises up like...like a storm - as if you were the Thunderbird himself."

Think Differently for More Power

Thursday, 15 November 2007
It's amazing how so many people who want greater strength would rather do the same thing over even if it doesn't warrant greater results simply because the old way feels comfortable, is well trodden, and they don't have to struggle to learn something new that that has an unknown track record. It's more rewarding for them to get the same mediocre results over and over because they think it's normal, it's part of the process.

There are tremendous rewards for those that dare to think different - from strength and speed training to business to entertainment and even to the invention of man being able to fly.

We've been brought up to believe that will and force can achieve anything.

But, let's go back two schools of thinking. One that changed the world and the other; the other forgotten. Back in 1903, a man by the name of Samuel Pierpont Langley was trying to build an airplane with a staff of industrious people. Ever heard of him? Probably not. And, there's a reason for that, because at the same time, two brothers by the name of Orville and Wilbur Wright were struggling to create the world's first airplane too.

Mr. Langley and his team focused on the idea that if they could create a big and powerful enough engine and attach it to a structure - it would certainly fly.

The Wright brothers, worked on efficiency and economy of power. They were building something of a glider and that it's power wouldn't come from just the pure force of man-made power. Their emphasis was on balance and steering knowing that the power would come as long as they're design was aligned with the forces of Mother Nature. They worked with the idea that if they could create something that could utilize the forces of Mother Nature, only then would they put an engine on it to power it through the air.

They failed for three years trying to blaze their own trail - thinking outside the envelope as it were. Their persistence paid off though and only then did they commission a bicycle shop machinist by the name of Charlie Taylor to build them an engine. To Mr. Langley, this was the backwards way to do it.

Electric Hands

Monday, 12 November 2007
In my many years to try to generate power to utilize in martial arts or for the inspiration to play the piano on world-class stages throughout the world, or to create sculptures or paintings, I’ve found that generating energy from the hands is one of the paramount ingredients that create not only a flow of energy but a flow of inspiration as well and it allows for the mind to be “in the moment” without the force of will.

If you can learn to create power from the hands inspiration will follow and flow. If you can generate electrical charges that you could swear emits from your hands, almost like by magic as if you were a wizard, you can do amazing things you never thought possible.

One of the things I do before each performance is try to engage my mind to flow this magical electrical surge through my hands. Before each martial arts sparring match, I do the same. Or, each time before I put a paintbrush to the canvas.

Without it, I feel almost lost. With it, it seems to guide my hands, my thoughts, my creativity, and energies to make the right choices, the right moves. Isn't that what "in the flow" is supposed to be about? Since boyhood, I always heard people talk about being in the "flow'. But, it wasn’t until I really learned how to flow my energy through my hands from the toes all the way up through my spine and out through the fingertips with breath and imagination, that I really understood the amazing power of "going with the flow".

Getting into the "flow" always seemed to be an act of will and to go down stream you don't need to be struggling to row with oars.

Now, I know that if I can generate the right electricity before whatever I do, the right amount of energy to flow through the hands, that the inspiration will come, incredible power will come. When done right, it seems almost like a guidance system for fantastic things to follow.

The Truth about Houdini’s Strength

Wednesday, 31 October 2007
Tonight is Halloween night - a night that I also always remember the great magician Houdini who was an idol of mine growing up. It’s on Halloween night that he escaped from this earthly plane for the last time at the young age of 52.

I thought of him in my own performances on stage tonight remembering his great skill not only as a magician but also as a mega showman and also to his tremendous physical strength and fantastic escapes.

I so often hear theories about his magical abilities, his strength, and the way he died based on hearsay, myth, and legend. He was larger than life but I’d rather tell you about a real man who was extraordinary rather than perpetuating the myths and fantasies told by make-believe storytellers. The things he really did as a man are extraordinary enough without having to exaggerate or to perpetuate untruths.

One of the very reasons he became an extraordinary human – a superhuman, as we say – is simply because those are the ones who take the smallest and seemingly “ordinary” things and hone them with determination to perfection. Just that alone will most often create a “virtuoso” - one who possesses seemingly superhuman powers and abilities.

Think about it, what makes seemingly impossible things happen in magic is the attention to every single detail. No detail is too small to perfect. For if it isn’t perfect, EVERYONE in the audience will know it. In magic there are no second chances.

Moreover, in fantastic and dangerous escapes, attention to detail is paramount because falling from great heights, drowning, or burning to death by one slip up not only ruins a good illusion, but – you know the rest of that story.

So, let’s think about how Houdini really trained. Some of his greatest escapes were done under water – and upside down – and, in the dark. Yes, he really held his breath for very unbelievably long periods. There wasn’t any scuba gear back then and he wasn’t breathing through long straws as some conjecture.

To become the greatest escape artist of all time, he needed to not only hold his breath – but he trained to push human “limitations” farther and farther in every respect and detail.
